fresh pussy

(i hope i get some google hits out of that one)

for all intents and purposes, i have a new member in my 'household'. scott found her (we think it's a her) shivering, scared and following him down Lawrence on friday. being more caring than he'd dare admit, he carted the kitty off to his place, where it promptly got in a face-off with Loki. bad sauce.

so, he asked me to take care of it. i hemmed and i hawed, but in the end, who could say no to this?

ah, the reason blogs were invented.

it hasn't been all fun and games, though. hell, she might not even be mine yet. she ran out of the courtyard of some apt buildings, she seemed well-taken care of, she's trained.. she had to belong to somebody. plus she has the strange habit of attacking my legs and feet when i walk.. pouncing on me while i'm exercising.. and even attacking me when i'm not moving. and i won't even go into the carnage i came home to today:

it didn't stand a chance.

black tuesday

the worst day of the year has come and gone. amazingly, i did not sucker punch anyone carrying flowers and/or candy. other than that, it was a horrid day in general. hallmark day + pms = ugly.

suffice it to say, no one proclaimed their undying love for me. stupid humans.. you'll come crawling eventually.

the other alternative is to lop off some limbs

so i'm trying to eat healthier and lose weight before i take off for london, and beyond. the problem? i'm starting to become obsessed with it. i see food and i break it up into its nutritional components. i worry i'm eating too much, that i'm not eating enough, that i should count calories religiously or don't bother at all.. plus there's the whole carbs-or-not thing. i was alarmed to learn that of the 1,000 calories (!) in the average Chipotle burrito, a full third of that is the tortilla shell alone (!!!). jeebus.

on top of all this i've had a downturn in mood as of late. dunno if it's from the diet or from outside circumstances.. my random irrationality has grown. i feel like i have PMS when i don't. makes me a pleasure to work and game with, that's for sure. right now i have little energy owing to my saturday night escapade and the fact that my thighs are still on fire. but damnit, i'm doing upper body shit today anyway. beefcake. BEEFCAKE!

clubbin'

i got so bored tonight - and i've really wanted to do this oh, i don't know, every weekend - that i went out to neo, without my sister. (*gasp*) such a thing has never occured before, since i rely on her for rides to and from said industrial club. but maaaan, is she a killjoy.

me: hey kim.. could i possibly persuade you to go dancing this weekend?
her: are you fuckin' nuts?

i wish i were kidding. (<3 you kim)

so i went by my lonesome. no rapage or murdering or roofies to report, thankfully, which is what has kept me from going alone. all the regulars are actually really nice. it's the skeezy ones that hang out on the edge of the dance floor and leer, getting steadily drunker, that you have to be aware of. if you're gonna be that close to the action, take off the fuckin' trenchcoat, put out the cig and DANCE, motherfucker!

i got some eye candy in too. there's an interesting specimen i've seen before that was introduced to me personally tonight. unfortunately he shares a name with an ex of mine. not cool, but he seems pleasantly nuts, so i can forgive him. paulie (pauly? pauli?), a neo employee, introduced himself to me for roughly the 5th time since i first saw him. apparently, even though i'm told he's hot for me, he can never remember who i am. *shrug*

and then, things got weird. a few halloweens ago i went out with kim to neo, where on the dance floor, i spied someone who looked exactly like a guy i was having a tough time getting over. spitting image, down to the height and the glasses. and holy fuckshit, could he dance! i couldn't stop staring at him, for both reasons. well, guess who shows up, late into the night. looked like this wasn't his first stop on the dancing/drinking tour. i didn't recognize him at first, cuz he'd done some crazy shit with his hair, growing it long on one side, reminding me of the guy from information society. he jabbered to some friends that were sitting by where i'd parked my winded carcass, then danced to one song, then.. left. whee. i gotta catch up with him sometime.. if only to watch him dance.

my ears are smarting from the sound of typing, so i must go collapse now.

GUESS WHAT I'VE GOT!

and no, it's not contagious!

watch out, jude law and joseph fiennes and damon albarn and ricky wilson and gluaghalguh... oh, whatever shall i do with myself now?

*jig jig jiggity jig*

geekgrrl's grand day out

yesterday i met up with a charming gentleman with whom i'd been corresponding by email and phone for a few months now. we were to have lunch at the Signature Room at the Hancock building (!), and then... well, didn't know and neither did he. it involved going on a tip from a friend of his. so he put the location in his car's navigation system and let it lead the way.

we started going west on North Avenue, which turned into I-64. we went past Northlake and Carol Stream; drove thru quaint St. Charles; then past Wasco and Sycamore, which i've never heard of; past Byron (tried to see the cooling towers of their power plant but couldn't.. a really bad fog had kicked up out in the boondocks), past Rockford.. finally we ended up in Mount Carroll, Illinois, a 150-mile, three-hour jaunt out of town. yup, 150 miles. on a first date. with a guy i've never met before. who says i ain't adventurous?

we were early for whatever the heck we were doing, so we chilled at a local DQ, where you can get a shamrock shake all year round, god bless 'em. they call it creme de menthe, but you can't fool me. then we headed to.....the Raven's Grin Inn. a haunted house out in the middle of absolute nowhere, at the end of a dead-end street. how romantic! in all honesty, it was pretty cool. the guy running the place was nuts. he tended to be schticky, but when he dropped the routine and talked to us person to person - we were the only two on the tour - he had some interesting stuff to say. the whole place reminded me of the Winchester Mystery House, or at least i feel it would if i'd ever been there. floors/walls at crazy angles, two slides (i only went down one, at my date's insistence, screaming the entire way down - fun!), immensely skinny and/or tall stairs, passageways leading inside and outside in freezing weather.. it was a trip. i'd never really been to a haunted house before. he built up the house with the slides and the weird passageways and everything, but it truly is supposed to be haunted. didn't see/feel anything, though. :(

on the way back we got stopped for speeding in Carol Stream. that was fun and bullshit at the same time. i noticed us slowing as we came out of a stoplight, then saw headlights in the rearview.. and then the flashing lights started up. the p'liceman claimed we were doing '66 and climbing' in a 45, which oddly enough was just enough to put us in the '21 and over' $95 ticketing zone. what's even odder is that when i looked at the speedometer as we were slowing, it only said 52 mph. truly a mystery.

oh, i ended up with some pictures from my little adventure. between St. Charles and Wasco, my companion noticed something at the side of the road. whipping back around to investigate, it turned out to be a very old mausoleum belonging to the family farm across the way. having just dined at the Hancock, we were dressed in our brunchy best (although in retrospect i don't know why.. wrinkled jeans and t-shirts were the attire of choice for the proles we saw), yet we climbed up the back hill overlooking the crypt to get a better look. a nice spooky find to go with a nice spooky day.

bottoms up, cont'd

so i was hanging out on the Belmont L platform a few nights ago, like you do, when i saw a building very close by that's being demolished by the CTA. i've kept tabs on such buildings over the past months, taken down at both the Belmont and Fullerton stops. (luckily i missed this abomination due to lack of light going to and coming home from work.) as i checked out the half-present edifice, i noticed the footprint and how it related to the street below. on wilton.. next to another bygone building on the corner.. k, wow, yeah, that's bottom lounge. i saw airiel for the first time in that place, by myself, after sitting through three other non-local acts. (not that i would have known them anyway.) that's also where i saw trs-80 before ken and deb jumped ship. ah, memories. can't say i'll miss the place all that much, though.. at the airiel show i could see my breath in the bathroom, it was so abysmally cold in there. apparently they're moving somewhere near the loop, which should be interesting. hopefully it'll be a better building.

now, for your gawking pleasure:

i can't believe i'm the only one who gapes at such things...how could one pull oneself away?

03 January 2006

bottoms up

hrhrhr.. but seriously, folks. i have pics of the erstwhile bottom lounge after being dismantled, brick by brick, with what looked like a nuclear bomb. i am far too tired to place them here tonight, however. they will just have to sit on my digicam until tomorrow. consider yourself warned.

30 December 2005

london, baby, LONDON!

i feel like Cousin Avi from Snatch, only with a slightly better attitude. i'm goin' to fuckin' LONDON, one of my few life-long dreams. am i ready for them? the sweets, the kippers, the architecture, the bangers, the accents? are they ready for me? muahahahahaHAHAHH.......... happy new year's to me!

26 December 2005

aftermath

best. christmas. ever.

20 December 2005

what on earth..

i went to go get my two loads of laundry out of the dryers.. and found a pile from one dryer stacked on the other, with no new laundry drying. thanks, bitches, ran my thinking, but then this guy came in saying 'cheers' in an odd manner, to say the least. i just watched lock, stock and two smoking barrels - he reminded me of the stoner pot growers. he came in, looked around, saw his sock on the floor, was extremely happy and effusive about finding it, and left. ...and just as swift came back in, gushing about how warm the socks were and how many pairs of underwear (one silk) he wore today. all the while i'm thinking, it's 11:30 at night in a cold laundry room with a strange man going out of his way to talk to me about silk underwear.. do i have a situation here? thankfully he went about his merry way with no harsh words or fisticuffs, billowing 'cheers' on his (second) way out.

all together now: ...

19 December 2005

brr

it may be cold outside, but hate keeps me toasty warm.

16 December 2005

when it rains, it pisses

i've been dealing with a corporate holiday gift-giving disaster at work - for a large order of fleece jackets for which i was responsible, Land's End charged my boss's credit card thirty-five times - while recovering from a cold and heading into the full blossom of PMS. but at the end of the day, i still get to come home to this:

yep, that's my kitchen cabinet coming apart at the joints. i noticed a few days ago that the doors weren't staying closed anymore. i looked closer last night and realized the top part of the cabinet was coming off the wall. called my building manager whilst at work. when i got home, i found it in its above state, doors wide open not due to flinging or to carelessness, but to gravity. looks like the frame is separating from the staples up at the top, for a reason i cannot fathom at this point in time. good thing i stopped off and bought booze on my way home, is it not?

13 December 2005

the dreaded three-letter word

let me tell you a little about PMS. it varies from woman to woman, sure. varies in duration, intensity, symptoms. with my own variety.. it's like suddenly waking up hogtied in a mental institution with only the vaguest idea of how you got there. you don't know you're there till you're there. and after you're there, you can only wave a sullen goodbye to sanity for the next two weeks.

this is not my beautiful house...

today i considered conjuring some kind of PMS 'brand' for my person, so as to warn fellow humans (i used to easily pass for your kind only two days ago!) of my current condition. maybe a shirt with a large P on it, or some manner of pink. that'd be a definite scare-all right there. my personal favorite idea is a football helmet with a one-way mirror covering the facehole that just has 'GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME' painted on it. crude but effective, no?

08 December 2005

just the facts

fact A: i am at work.

fact B: i have a Pantera song in my head entitled "Fucking Hostile."

coincedence? i think not.

29 November 2005

PEDophile

it's not what you think. honest.

i've been playing this horribly time-, money-, life-sucking game called Project Entropia. it's an MMORPG, which translates to 'fantasy game spent mostly running around killing animals and wearing cowboy hats which is so SO NOT GAY.' seriously, you can wear a cowboy hat in it. a colored one...dare i say a purple one. not gay at all.

anyway, you have a person that runs around this fake planet on a virtual continent (there are two, but i've only checked out one so far). your person, or avatar, can kill things, make things, or mine things. it cannot, lamentably, fuck things, otherwise i'd have made a small fortune as a madam already.

oh, btw: this is based on a real-life economy. the in-game monetary units are called PEDs for Project Entropia Dollars (hence the title, GET IT?? please say you get it), which are worth 10 cents. so if i, say, craft some boots with my super-über-boot-making powers, and they end up being worth, like, 60 PED.. i could transfer that money out to my bank account and use it to buy a Whopper. ain't the internet a beautiful thing?

14 November 2005

free time

i have way too much of it. i drew a very bad comic inspired by my recent wacky adventures with Terre de Google.

I apologize sincerely.

09 November 2005

ashes to ashes, dust to dust

so a few months ago, as previously noted, they knocked down the house next door to my apartment complex. the aging owner came into some troubles, i guess.. he really was one of those typical weird-old-man types who would sit on his front porch and glare at passersby. had 'beware of dog' signs all over the place. apparently he couldn't take care of his dogs or himself anymore and ended up somewhere far away. at any rate, the house got trashed, and in the process the destructors took a chunk out of the house on the other side.

i should have known something was up when that chimney never got repaired. furthermore, i never saw any lights on in that place, not even when i'd come home late at night after clubbing or shows. (makes my life sound so glamorous.. i love it) eventually the ubiquitous condo sign went up and its days were numbered. it's not even the same condo company that's building on the site of the first house. so two new condos right next to each other. i can't wait.

in the meantime.. they knocked down the second house today.

i noticed it as i was trying to flag down the UPS person parked in front of my building. saw the backhoe parked atop all the rubble and just said 'oh, fuck.' creepy little white house, i hardly knew ye. here's hoping they don't put up a fence first thing tomorrow so's i can take some better pictures.

more pictures anyway:
